If These Boobs Could Talk
I recently spoke via email with the co-author of If These Boobs Could Talk: A Little Humor to Pump Up the Breastfeeding Mom (Andrews McMeel Publishing).
This is such a cute book that will allow mothers to have a little bit of humor about breastfeeding. As a breastfeeding mother myself, and having nursed two previous children, I know that when you are breastfeeding times can be hard. Your baby needs to be attached to you to nurse, you may be exhausted, you have to watch what you eat and many other things can come up that just make you feel like you deserve a good laugh.
LilyPadz Product Review
About LilyPadz:
Nursing moms love LilyPadz. The thin silicone nursing pads act like a second skin—they’re flexible, breathable, and nearly invisible. LilyPadz adhere to a nursing mom’s skin—and not to her bra—protecting her from the leakage, rubbing, and sticking that is commonly experienced with traditional cotton pads. Most moms forget they are even wearing them.
Invented in 2002 by a nursing mom for nursing moms, LilyPadz have a unique design that maintains pressure on the nipple and forms a non-absorbent barrier to prevent breast milk leakage—meaning no more inconvenient pad exchanges—so mom and her clothes stay dry. Since LilyPadz prevent milk leakage, there’s nothing to absorb.

Utterly Yours Breast Pillow
Utterly Yours Breast Pillow is the perfect creation for moms who need two hands free! Excellent product to allow breastfeeding moms to nurse baby at the computer while typing! As a busy work at home mom, I have enjoyed using my utterly yours breast pillow when working late in my home office. I no longer have to remove myself from the office chair to nurse Baby K, I simply grab my Utterly Yours Breast Pillow, insert it under my breast and voila I have super support for nursing!
The Utterly Yours Breast Pillow was created by a stay at home mother of four who breastfed her children even though it was a very frustrating activity for her. She was on a mission to find a simpler and more enjoyable way to breastfeed since even though she “stuck it out,” she watched too many of her friends give up due to the same frustrations. One reason women quit is due to a challenge that lactation consultants have been trying to address for years. It’s the tiresome act of women having to physically support and adjust their breast throughout each feeding to make sure baby stays latched on. It’s not only uncomfortable, but can also cause carpel tunnel [with those heavier breasts] and push women to switch to bottle feeding.
The Utterly Yours breast pillow is made of high density memory foam, so it’s super comfortable. I must admit I have been searching for a product like this for a long time, funny thing is I had to create a breastfeeding series on my blog to find it!!
I have been very happy with my Utterly Yours Breast Pillow and I hope that you will check out their amazing products found at www.utterlyyours.com.
Breastfeeding Twins: One Mom’s Story
Story shared & written by: Maria Colacurcio is a WAHM. She can be reached on Twitter @mcolacurcio.
It’s been 6 months and 15 days since the birth of my identical girl twins. As most moms know, the early days in your newborn’s life both fly by at the speed of light and get stuck in slow motion, where 15 minutes can seem like 4 hours. Since I have a 2 yr old daughter as well, I know now that the little phases don’t last long and I can enjoy them for the fleeting stage they are.
The first 6 months with identical twins can be summed up in one word: breastfeeding. Over the past 6 months, I’ve either been breastfeeding, pumping, worrying about milk supply, stocking up frozen milk, stressing over whether that glass of wine is keeping them up and guiltily sucking down my large cup of coffee every morning. Despite all of that, I’ve successfully breastfed both girls exclusively (excepting the early days of waiting for the milk to come in) and both are growing beautifully. Here are my tips for new moms in the battle of the boobs:
Amuse Me Baby
Did I get your attention? Amuse Me Baby is a great business that has nursing covers and children’s aprons! Since this is a series on breastfeeding I will be focusing on their Amusement Nursing Covers.
I was able to review their Veronica cover. Stylish and easy to use this nursing cover makes breastfeeding in public the “in thing”. The bright ribbon colors found inside the cover make for an amusement for baby while he/she nurses and the outter shell has a stylish, colorful design looking more like an outfit addition than a blanket covering your baby.
Amuse Me Baby has 7 different color choices to choose from for both their children’s aprons and nursing covers!
Why I feel Amuse Me Baby is a must have for any mother who nurses in public:
- Stylish
- Small size makes it easier to toss in a diaper bag versus a bulky blanket.
- Makes a great on the go tummy time blanket.
- The interior ribbons amuse baby while he/she is nursing.
- Multiple styles to choose from to fit your style.
Head on over to Amuse Me Baby today to see what they can offer you! I would love to hear your comments on their products!
One Moms Breastfeeding Story
My name is Lily and I am a mom to a 2 1/2 year-old boy, who is the love of my life. I know that a lot of parents have said, but knowing the troubles that I went through to conceive, the miracle that’s my, son is the greatest thing that could have (and did) happen to me.
The decision about breastfeeding goes back to my upbringing. My mom breastfed both my brother and myself. I was always hoping and praying that I would be blessed enough to give my child the same nutrients that my mom was able to pass onto me. I know that in today’s world, breastfeeding is not always convenient, or to some it doesn’t quite come natural. But what I don’t like about some women deciding to not breastfeed their child is the selfish reason of not wanting to sacrifise their boobs to breasfeeding challenges.
I have breasfed my son for 15 months and proud of every single second. My baby was never sick, excelled at growth charts at every check up, and the brain development of his is beyond any of our comprehension. Not only have we realized his intelligence, but friends and others who have met him at play groups for the first time. Now, I am not certifying my son as a genius or a prodigy, but I am proud of him and his ability to understand, communicate in two languages, and utilize his common sense better than some adults.
I have seen many commercials for the baby formulas advertising it as: Now, DHA (found in breasmilk) added for better brain development. This means that they are trying to duplicate something that mother nature have already gave us the ability to naturally produce. On the other hand, I am glad for formulas for those moms who are not able to produce breastmilk or for those whose milk is not of good quality.
I am personally grateful to have been able to give my son the best start in life that I could have possible given him. If I have any more children in the future, I will do the same.

Making The Decision To Breastfeed

Making the decision to breastfeed is a very personal one, many people have heard horror stories and many may have family who feels this is not an okay thing to do. Whatever your decision ends up being, this article is about those who finally made the decision to breastfeed. Just some of the many stories & opinions other Moms and myself have heard are:
- Friends who had babies and thought breastfeeding was just disgusting.
- You are limited on what food you can eat, and can not drink alcohol.
- Public breastfeeding is condoned.
- Mom who works outside of the house can’t breastfeed.
- Breastfeeding will take up all your time.
- Breastfeeding babies sleep less and wake more often for feedings.
I am sure many of you have heard other stories that just make the decision to breastfeed even harder. I would like to touch on all the points above with a rebuttal:
- Breastfeeding is not disgusting, honestly, how can such a natural way to feed our baby be deemd “disgusting”. Before formula was created Moms had no other choice but to use the method they were born with to feed their babies – their breasts and with advanced technology a mom can now pump and feed a baby breastmilk in a bottle if the nursing on the breast seems “disgusting” to them.
- Although it’s recommended to eat a proper diet and get proper amount of fluids into your system to help keep your energy and milk supply up – really you don’t “have” to change your diet. I personally still eat hot italian sausage, pizza, and much more. Although eating high fatty foods will make you more sleepy, really you can eat whatever you want honestly!
- Public nursing has become something that society is accepting. The more moms choose to breastfeed the more society will accept this natural ability to feed our babies! Many restaurants will even allow you to nurse at a table while eating dinner {although I am not yet comfortable doing this myself}. Some states have even created laws to protect a Moms right to nurse in public!
- If you are a working mom – who works outside of the home or inside for that matter – you can still breastfeed your baby. There are so many ways to get around this – pumping ahead of time and storing milk in the freezer – this allows the care giver to feed your baby while you are away! Breast milk may be stored in a freezer for 3-4 months and still be good to use!
- I personally feel that formula feeding takes up more of your time than breastfeeding. Think about it – when you want to get out the door fast you don’t have to pack anything extra – babies food is always there because it’s YOU.
- I will say based on my own personal experience breastfed babies do seem to wake more often than formula fed babies in the beginning, but so do most formula fed babies. It’s all in the baby and his/her age really!
The fact that you can’t drink alcohol while breastfeeding just got better. No more pumping and dumping, thanks to a product invented by Julie Jumonville. The product is called Milkscreen and it was created to help extend the life of breastfeeding and give woman a tool to make sure they are not passing anything negative onto baby if they occasionally consume alcohol! Milkscreen is affordable and is one of the products that makes you say, “why didn’t I think of that”. Head on over to UpSpring Baby to find out more about MilkScreen and buy yourself a kit today if you plan on or think you may occasional consume alcohol while breastfeeding!
I hope this has helped shed some light on the decision to breastfeed and keep your eyes out for tomorrow’s post, I will be reviewing the GoPillow! Remember to subscribe to my blog if you are looking to keep up with my weekend posts about breastfeeding. Feel free to read the introduction article written last week!
Coming Soon: Series on Breastfeeding
If you don’t know, now you will know, I am a breastfeeding mother! I made the decision to breastfeed my first born as I felt it was the best choice for my family at the time. Health benefits were of the most popular reasons I decided to start breastfeeding. Four years later when my second child was born, it was just my natural instinct to want to nurse him, however, I only nursed him for 8 weeks. I will get into that detailed story as to why I quit at 8 weeks and how I felt like a failure for only nursing for such a short period of time later on this series or in the e-book. Then last August my third child was born, again I have chosen to breastfeed. My third child is now 7 months old and is strictly breastfeeding with of course baby cereal & baby food. He will not take a bottle for anything or anybody, another story I will certainly share.
